Heart-wrenching footage has emerged showing an injured koala getting rescued after bushfires ravaged her habitat in Australia.

In the video captured in the Bellangry State Forrest in the state of New South Wales, a man came across the injured koala and stopped to give her water.

She can be seen sitting on the ground while he gives her a cup to drink from.

The Koala Hospital Port Macquarie posted the video to its Facebook page on Thursday.

“Kate on the day she was found in burnt out country by Darrel,” the animal hospital said.

“He may have got the sex wrong but he did the right thing by gently capturing her using a big blanket and bring her to us.

“Kate has burns to hands, feet, face, and full singing of her body.”

Despite being given water, the koala was still very dehydrated when she arrived at the hospital.

Another also said: "This absolutely breaks my heart. Thank you for taking good care of these beautiful creatures."

"It is heartbreaking to see these poor creatures suffering but heartwarming to know you guys give them so much love and care," a commenter also said.
