Australian-based British forward set for return as frontrunner in transfer battle emerges
Featherstone Rovers are leading the chase for former Huddersfield Giants prop Robson Stevens. Rugby League Live understands the forward, who is currently in Australia, has held talks with the West Yorkshire good with regards to a move to the club next season.
It was revealed earlier this year that Stevens was commanding interest from a number of UK clubs as he prepared for a return to the country after a stint down under. Stevens, 22, has been playing in the Queensland Cup for Mackay Cutters for the last two seasons.
A product of the Huddersfield academy system, Stevens made his Super League debut aged 19 and also gained Championship experience with Dewsbury Rams before his move to the Cutters. He made 15 appearances for Mackay last year and now appears set to make a move back to the Championship next year.
While a number of clubs have shown interest in Stevens, Featherstone are believed to be the frontrunner at present as part of their transfer plans for 2025. Rovers have lost one of their current props, Nathan Massey, to retirement and have identified Stevens as a replacement.
In the meantime, Rovers' focus is on securing a play-off spot, which is set to go down to the wire with four teams battling it out for three spots heading into the final three rounds of the season. York, Sheffield and Featherstone are all tied on 26 points, with Widnes Vikings one point ahead.
