Australian bushfires: Chris Hemsworth, Kylie and Margot Robbie among stars donating millions to help firefighters

Australian stars including Kylie Minogue, Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman are among celebrities donating millions of dollars to help fight the deadly bushfires ravaging the country.

Singers Elton John and Pink have also pledged donations to help stop the blazes, as has Kylie Jenner, while actors Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe have also shown their support on social media.

Bushfires which have been raging for weeks have killed 25 people, millions of animals and destroyed 2,000 homes across Australia .

Here's what the stars have said as they urge others to help out.

Chris Hemsworth

Alongside a video message, the Thor star said his family was pledging a million dollars and praised firefighters for their efforts so far.

"As you're well aware the bushfires in Australia have caused massive devastation," he said in the clip. "They continue to burn, there's warmer weather on it's way, we're really still in the thick of it here, plenty of challenging times ahead.

"What we need is your support and your donations. I'm going to put forward a million dollars and I was hoping that all of you could contribute in any way, shape or form. Every dollar counts. That money goes directly to the firefighters, the people on the frontlines, the people who have suffered, the communities that have taken a hit and who are in desperate need of our support."

Kylie Minogue

The star posted a photo of a recent trip back to her home country, and said: "Last year I had the incredible opportunity of visiting some of the many beautiful places in my homeland for the first time. Returning home to such devastation throughout much of the country is heartbreaking.

"As a family, we've donated $500,000 towards the immediate firefighting efforts and the ongoing support which will be required.

"Big or small, from near or far, any support will help those affected by the devastating bushfires.

"With love, The Minogue Family."

The message was also posted by her sister, Dannii.

Margot Robbie

In an Instagram video, the actress said she had donated and shared pictures from her childhood, saying she did not want to show photos of the devastation, but wanted fans to see "how beautiful our country is".

She said: "I'm sure you're all aware of what's happening in Australia at the moment with the fires, and I didn't want to show you more pictures of the devastation, I wanted you to see how beautiful our country is because it is so beautiful and it's really, really hurting right now. And it really, really needs you to please, please donate anything you can.

"I'll put links in my bio on my Instagram story. I went on so many different websites to donate, they took me less than a minute to donate each. And I'm terrible with technology. And it was really, really easy.

"Whatever you would have spent on your next cup of coffee, even a dollar would help. It's so needed right now. Please, please. If you haven't already donated, please do. And let's give future generations the kind of childhood I was so lucky to have."

Nicole Kidman

The star was reportedly teary as she spoke about the wildfires at the Golden Globe awards.

On Instagram, she wrote: "Our family's support, thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires all over Australia. We are donating $500,000 to the Rural Fire Services who are all doing and giving so much right now."

Elton John

The star pledged one million dollars in an announcement while on stage in Sydney on Tuesday, telling the audience they should be "in awe of the work that the firefighters are doing".

He said: "This is a magnificent country that I've been coming to since 1971.

"I love it here so much. To see what is happening here breaks my heart and so we have to come together and we have to fight, and this is my bit towards it.

"I love Australia so much and to those that have lost their homes, God bless, I hope that your lives will be repaired very soon."

Animals have had their habitats destroyed "on a biblical scale", Sir Elton told the audience at the Qudos Bank Arena.

He said: "Therefore tonight I will be pledging one million dollars to support the bushfire relief fund."
