Australian Citizens Arrive at Christmas Island for Quarantine After Wuhan Evacuation

A group of 243 Australian citizens arrived at Christmas Island on Tuesday, February 4, for a two-week quarantine period after being evacuated from Wuhan on Monday.

The group arrived at RAAF Base Learmonth, near Exmouth in Western Australia, on Monday afternoon, according to the ABC, and were transferred to Christmas Island on Tuesday.

“We are pleased to confirm the safe arrival on Christmas Island of the last of four charter flights scheduled to arrive today, carrying Australian citizens returned from Hubei Province, China,” said Jason Wood, the Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety & Multicultural Affairs. “I would like to thank the hard-working Australian Border Force and all involved in this operation.” Credit: Australian Border Force via Storyful
