An Australian man who was heard live streaming himself hitting his partner has been charged with assault after footage of the alleged attack went viral on social media.

The man, Luke James Munday, left his live stream on while playing the popular online video game, Fortnite. This meant other players could hear the reported assault take place on Sunday night.

Under the name MrDeadMoth, he regularly broadcasts himself playing Fortnite via the video platform Twitch. His video was shared thousands of times, before the 26-year-old was arrested on Monday.

The video shared showed Mr Munday shouting to his partner off-screen "I said I'll be out soon". He then moves away from the computer monitor but the audio can still be heard.

A woman is heard saying "woman basher" and yells "you hit me in the face, don't you dare touch my face, you hear that, all you people there?"

The argument continues, with further yelling and crying off screen and Mr Munday can be heard shouting "leave me alone."

In a second video, more fighting is heard between the pair and a child can be heard crying. Police said that two girls, aged three and 20 months, were in the home at the time.

The 21-year-old woman was "not seriously injured" but was "distressed and shaken by the incident."

New South Wales state police said someone watching the live feed called officers, who arrested the man at his home in the southwest Sydney suburb of Oran Park.

Mr Munday was charged with common assault and bailed to appear in court on Thursday.

Police also served him with an order which prohibits him from harassing, threatening and intimidating behaviour.

This follows a similar incident last month, where a Florida man was charged after he was overheard allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl during a game break from Grand Theft Auto.

Another player had told police that Mr Fabian left his audio on and he heard a female in distress saying "no".

The teenage girl told police she was held down and raped by Mr Fabian.
