Britain’s Dan Evans caused a huge upset by stunning world No.7 Marin Cilic to reach the third round of the Australian Open for the first time.

Evans, ranked 51st in the world, fought back from a poor first set to beat the Croat 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.

It is the second time the British No.3 has beaten a player ranked in the world’s top 10 after seeing off Dominic Thiem in Sydney last week.

It is the fourth time Evans has progressed to the last 32 of a Grand Slam – he reached the third round of the US Open in 2013 and 2016, and at Wimbledon in 2016.

Cilic cruised through the first set in 31 minutes but that was as good as it got for the 2014 US Open Champion.

The fourth set saw three breaks of serve before Evans completed the job and he will now face either Australian Bernard Tomic or Dominican Victor Estrella Burgos next.
