Australian Rapper 'Attempted to Swim Away' When Presented With $465 Restaurant Bill

An Australian rapper is accused of jumping into the sea and swimming away in an attempt to escape from paying a large restaurant bill.

Aspiring rapper 2Pec, whose real name is Terry Peck, enjoyed a meal at a seafood restaurant on Australia’s Gold Coast Sunday, which included lobster, oysters and drinks, reported ABC.

However when presented with the AU$621 ($465) bill, he is accused of running off into the surf, with coastguards riding jet skis in hot pursuit. Officers reportedly tried to persuade Peck to return to shore, but he refused and they had to jump into the water to arrest him.

Peck, 33, has been charged with stealing and two counts of assault against a police officer, following the incident at the Omeros Bros seafood restaurant in Surfers Paradise on the east coast.

He allegedly consumed two lobsters, a baby octopus, 21 vodka oyster shots and "a number of Coronas" without paying, reported ABC.

He appeared before Southport Magistrates’ Court Monday, and was released on bail, reported the Australian Press Association.

Peck told reporters outside that he hadn’t enjoyed the meal because the lobster was overcooked, and he had only left at such short notice to help a friend give birth on a nearby beach.

The restaurant's assistant manager, Mark Hunnybun, denied the claim about the lobsters being poorly cooked, and told ABC: "We cook our lobsters perfectly here—we pride ourselves on cooking our lobsters perfectly."
