It has been confirmed that Axel Rudakubana, the Southport killer, has not been assaulted in prison. The 18-year-old was handed a minimum of 52 years imprisonment on Thursday for the murder of three young girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on 29 July last year.

Rumours circulated earlier today via a voice note on social media, that Rudakubana had been attacked in his cell. Currently held in a segregation unit at HMP Belmarsh over concerns for his safety, there is speculation that he could be targeted by fellow inmates seeking retribution for the young lives he took.

The audio suggested that two prisoners had gained access to Rudakubana's cell and assaulted him. However, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) later clarified these claims were unfounded and no such attack had occurred.

Rudakubana is widely believed to be at risk of being attacked following his sentencing for the murders of Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine.

HMP Belmarsh, located in south-east London, is notorious as one of the UK's most violent prisons. It is believed that Rudakubana will remain a marked man throughout his incarceration, reports the Mirror.
