Avalanche Takes Out Monitoring System in Swiss Alps

An avalanche-detection system with a built-in camera fell victim to the force of nature after a strong avalanche swept it down a mountain near Zermatt, Switzerland, on January 22.

Video captured the moment the avalanche hit and quickly engulfed the device in snow. The device’s operator, Geopraevent, said no one was hurt as a result of the avalanche.
