Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are preparing to produce a new docu-series exploring the rivalry between Marvel and DC.

Titled Slugfest, the new series will 'track the rise of two groundbreaking creative companies' that eventually went on to become the comics-publishing powerhouses we know today.

“A race to the top fuelled by competitive intuition and creative ingenuity, what resulted was an indomitably American industry, rising from its scrappy, disregarded roots to establish culture-changing mythologies," reads the press release shared on Wednesday (November 14).

Directed by Don Argott and Sheena M Joyce, Slugfest was inspired by the book Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle between Marvel and DC and will feature behind-the-scenes stories, including one about the first official Marvel and DC crossover comic from the 1970s with Superman and Spider-Man.

The docu-series has been greenlit by short-form mobile video platform Quibi, which will officially launch in the US on April 6, 2020.

The Russos, who have directed some of Marvel's most successful titles in recent years – namely Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War – are currently finished with the studio, but they recently admitted they could be enticed back to make the next X-Men or Fantastic Four movie.

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download.
