Avengers Endgame spoilers: How to avoid having the end of MCU film ruined by leaked footage

Avengers: Endgame is not supposed to be out until 25 April.

But leaked footage of the film means that it is possible – and relatively easy – to find details of what happens across the internet.

Doing so doesn't even require watching the leaked videos. Numerous summary articles and ruinous posts are littered across the internet, and you might even come into contact with one without trying.

That means that any fans should be advised to take proactive measures if they don't want to find out what happens in the film before it comes out at the end of the month.

Thankfully there are a whole host of tools that can make it easier to ignore anyone trying to ruin 2019's biggest film for you.

Twitter

With the potential to be the most frustrating of platforms – links can fly into your feed without you realising – it's helpful that Twitter offers built-in tools to make it easy to mute just about whatever you like.

Head into the settings on desktop or mobile and find the "Muted Words" option. You can then add all the words you want, and they'll be banned from showing up on your Twitter, even if you then move to other devices.

Facebook

Last year, Facebook finally added the option to mute keywords, something that previously could only be done with fiddly extensions and a lot of work. The relatively new feature, called Keyword Snooze, is made for exactly this kind of situation.

The unfortunate thing is that you'll have to wait until you see an Avengers: Endgame post before you can actually mute them, by which point you might already have fallen victim to the spoilers. If you do see something that includes keywords that you want to mute, you can click the option in the corner of the post, which will give you the option to "snooze" a selection of the words included in there for 30 days.

Instagram

Instagram doesn't let you mute specific words in your feed. Helpfully it's probably not all that likely that anyone will actually ruin a film through their posts, though of course it's always possible someone will post the leaked footage or some other annoying spoiler.

It does however let you mute topics in the Explore tab, which might be useful, since they come from strangers and are so more likely to include surprises in them. Do that by long pressing on any of the topics that pop up there, which should let you mute that channel.

Remember, too, that Instagram does have the option to mute people, as well as topics. So if there's someone you're worried about spoiling it for you, you can head to their profile and select the mute option – either pre-emptively or in anger.

The rest of the internet

It is possible to pick the nuclear option and, Thanos-like, remove the half of the internet that is threatening you with spoilers. Searching through the extensions available for your browser should give you a whole host of options that will let you mute certain keywords, in a variety of different ways.

Always be vigilant about doing so. First, you might miss important information if your keywords are chosen too widely: you're probably safe muting "Avengers", but "Endgame" might get in the way a little more. And secondly, these extensions work by reading through the pages you're browsing on, so make sure they're made by someone dependable.

Leave the internet

Keyword muting and vigilance will only get you so far: the fact is, there are some people out there desperate to share spoilers, whatever the cost. And if they are sufficiently clever about it, they are always going to be able to get around keyword filters, by using unexpected or very generic wording.

The only foolproof way to avoid spoilers entirely is to leave the internet. But even then you are faced with the possibility that someone might mention something in person, or that you'll accidentally stumble into an annoying billboard or magazine cover...

As such, avoiding spoilers entirely and without any risk at all might be impossible. It is probably best just to take the advice above and adopt a mindful approach towards anyone who does happen tor ruin everything for you.
