Avengers: Infinity War director reveals the one Marvel character that won't appear in sequel

By now, it's apparent that pretty much all of Marvel Cinematic Universe crop of characters will be showing up in forthcoming Avengers film Infinity War. Well, that's all bar one.

Joe Russo, one-half of the film's directing duo alongside Anthony Russo, has revealed that Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel - the character who'll be played by Brie Larson - won't appear in the long-anticipated sequel.

Speaking at a Comic-Con press event, Russo, in reference to Danvers, told ComicBook.com simply: “She's not in Avengers 3.”

Avengers: Infinity War boasts the biggest ensemble of characters potentially ever seen with appearances from originals Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) as well as more recent additions Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and the Guardians of the Galaxy led by Chris Pratt's Star-Lord.

The heroes will unite to defeat the films' villain Thanos played by Josh Brolin.

Of course, considering the craftiness Marvel Studios has displayed in the past, this doesn't mean Larson's character won't be introduced in a post-credits sequence long synonymous with its series of films.

Captain Marvel - which will see the return of Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury - is set to be released 8 March 2019 meaning she'll almost certainly show up in Avengers 4 which will be released 3 May 2019.

Avengers: Infinity War is set to bow on 4 May 2018. Next up is Thor: Ragnarok which will be released in October.
