Avengers star Jeremy Renner shares first photo from hospital bed after being run over
Avengers star Jeremy Renner has given fans an update on his condition following a serious accident on Sunday involving a snow plough.
Taking to Instagram, Jeremy shared a selfie from his hospital bed in which he is clearly bruised and bloody. "Thank you all for your kind words," he told his 18.7 million followers. "I'm too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all."
Renner was airlifted to hospital on Sunday after the accident outside his home in Reno, Nevada. The 51-year-old had been run over by his own snow plough, which weighed at least 6.5 tonnes (three times as heavy as a car), according to the local sheriff.
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said in a press conference that the incident happened after a New Year storm left around 3ft of fresh snowfall on the ground. A family member driving Jeremy's car had got stuck in the snow near his house, and so he used his snow plough to tow the car free. The sheriff went on to reveal that when Jeremy got out to talk to his relative, the snow plough began to move and as he tried to get back into the driver's seat to stop it moving, the "extremely large" piece of equipment ran him over.
Speaking about the incident, Jeremy's publicist said on Monday that he'd suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries. At that time, he was in a stable but critical condition in intensive care.
Since details of the accident emerged, fans and celebrity friends alike have flooded social media with well-wishes for the actor. "Continued prayers your way brutha," c0-star Chris Pratt commented on his hospital selfie, which has racked up over 4.5 million likes.
"Tough as nails. Love you buddy!" replied Chris Evans, with Isla Fisher writing: "Phew! I’m so happy you made this post. Sending you so much love and healing energy. We love you."
We're sending lots of positive thoughts to Jeremy and wishing him the speediest of recoveries!
