The average salary you need to earn to buy different types of homes and flats in Cambridge

The average salary needed to afford a home in Cambridge has been revealed. The latest figures that were compiled by GoCompare Home Insurance shows that buying a flat, terraced house, semi-detached house, or a detached house will cost quite a lot of money.

The data was provided by the company's salary checker tool, allowing buyers to see what they need to earn to buy a property in their area. The tool can also be used to check house prices across various property types.

Cambridge was found to have a required salary of £193,519 for a detached house, with an average price of £972,634. According to the figures, this makes the city the second most expensive area of the UK after London and represents an increase from the previously reported data.

To buy a flat, people would need to earn a salary of £61,982. They would also need to be earning £100,023 to buy a terraced house and £193,519 to afford a detached house in the city.

Meanwhile, the average price for a flat in the city is £311,527. The salary tool also showed that it cost £502,721 for a terraced house and £972,634 for a detached house, with only London being more expensive.

Cambridge, known for its world-renowned University, idyllic location on the River Cam, and commuter links to London, has always faced steep housing costs.

The city is a popular tourist destination, with streets lined with stunning Gothic architecture, a bustling market and a wide range of independent shops. The city also has two restaurants with Michelin stars, including the two-starred Midsummer House on Midsummer Common.
