Avicii’s family have issued an emotional statement following the sudden death of the Swedish DJ last week.

The hit DJ, whose real name is Tim Bergling, died at the age of 28 while on holiday with friends in Oman last Friday.

Tributes quickly poured in for the star, including fellow DJ Kygo, who ended his Coachella set with Avicii’s 2017 hit Without You.

Now the late star’s family have thanked fans for their “loving words” in a heartfelt public statement.

“We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs,” the statement read.

Breaking their silence on the tragedy, the mourning family thanked fans for their heartfelt tributes.

“Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world,” they said.

As the cause of death has yet to be confirmed, the family concluded the statement with further thanks for their “privacy during this difficult time” and their “wish is that it continues that way.”

Police investigating the unexpected death have confirmed that there was “no suspicious cause of death” after two post-mortems were carried out over the weekend.

The brains behind hit singles, Wake Me Up and Hey Brother, Avicii suffered acute pancreatitis caused by excessive drinking in 2011 and had his gall bladder and appendix removed just three years later.

Despite releasing Lonely Together with Rita Ora last year, Avicii announced his early retirement from touring in an open letter to fans in 2016, saying “I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.”

Avicii’s sudden death came just days after he has nominated for a prestigious Billboard award in the Top Dance/Electronic album category.

The devastated family arrived in Oman on Monday to bring their son’s body home for burial to Sweden.
