Avicii Tribute Concert announced with line-up including Rita Ora, David Guetta, Kygo and more

It’s been over a year since Swedish DJ and music producer Avicii died but his legacy lives on. Following the release of a posthumous album of his unfinished music titled simply 'Tim' (after his real name Tim Bergling), close friends and collaborators are set to pay homage to the artist at an Avicii tribute concert later this year. The line-up will see names including Rita Ora, Kygo, David Guetta and more honour the late musician.

The concert is set to take place on December 5 in Bergling’s hometown Stockholm in Sweden, at the 50,000 seat Friends Arena. DJs and singers close to Bergling will take to the stage in a two hour set, which will see some of Bergling’s posthumous music performed live for the first time and include a 30 piece band.

The event is called the Avicii Tribute Concert For Mental Health Awareness and proceeds from the festival will go towards the Tim Bergling Foundation - a charity created by Bergling’s parents. It focuses on suicide prevention and mental health support, as well as several other causes including climate change, protecting endangered animals and eliminating global hunger. Bergling died by suicide last April at the age of 28 years old.

The likes of Rita Ora, Adam Lambert, Aloe Blacc, Blondfire, Andreas Moe, Audra Mae and Gavin DeGraw are included in the lineup and the Avicii collaborators are expected to perform their joint singles, which include Ora’s Lonely Together and Blacc’s Wake Me Up.

A number of DJs will also be performing including David Guetta, Kygo, Laidback Luke, Nicky Romero and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Rolling Stone reported that more artists are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Klas Bergling, Tim’s father, said in a statement, “Tim had plans for his music to be performed together with a large live band, and now we are realising his dream and giving fans a chance to experience his music in this unique way.”

"We are grateful that his friends, producers, artists and colleagues are coming to Stockholm to help. They have all expressed a sincere interest and desire to engage in efforts to stem the tide of mental illness and lend their support to our work with the Tim Bergling Foundation. We are very much looking forward to this evening, which will be a starting point for the foundation’s work going forward… We want this concert to help put the topic on the agenda and pay attention to the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide," he finished.

Tickets for the Avicii Tribute Concert are set to go on sale on September 5, 10am via Ticketmaster. Although the Tim Bergling Foundation does not yet have an official website or donation portal, the musician's website has been transformed into a place where fans can remember the late artist here.

Speaking to Billboard in June, Bergling’s father Klas said, “Tim was a popular person. His music still affects people around the world; we therefore believe we can reach out with our messages and, hopefully, shift opinions, open discussion and to provide real help to fix problems. To express myself simply, we want to see results. We don’t want to sit and talk and spend money.”
