Police appeal for witnesses after horse is shot in head with 50mm nail gun

Police are appealing for information after a horse was shot with a 50mm nail gun in a “nasty attack”.

The weapon was fired at the horse's head in a field between in Foxcote, near Radstock, Somerset, between 4.30pm on December 28, and 2.30pm the following day.

The nail lodged itself so far into the animal, a vet was called to treat and remove the nail from its face.

Police say the horse is recovering from its injuries.

PCSO Mike Storey, from Avon and Somerset Police's neighbourhood team, said: "This was a nasty attack on an animal, with no apparent motive.

"Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare, but we would urge horse owners in the area to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”

The force has launched an appeal for information regarding the incident and are asking witnesses to step forward.
