Avril Lavigne, source of all the best teen-angst anthems in the 2000s, and slightly less good ones in the 2010s, is BACK.

The singer announced via Twitter that she has signed a new record deal and will be releasing her sixth studio album in 2017.

She is now signed to BMG, as opposed to the Sony-owned Epic Records who released her previous work.

In the video embedded in the tweet, Lavigne states that the writing process was "therapeutic" and the music is reflective of what she has been through in recent years.

Although she doesn't specify anything in particular, the last few years have seen the singer open up about her battle with Lyme disease on multiple occasions, as well as her break-up with husband Chad Kroeger.

There was also that time last year when she had to deny she was dead.

Avril Lavigne's latest studio album, Avril Lavigne, was released in 2013 and featured 'Rock n Roll', a great song with a fantastic video starring Titanic actor Billy Zane, who should be in a lot more things to be honest.

Unfortunately for everyone, that album also contained 'Hello Kitty', which is just awful.

If anyone from BMG is reading this, do not allow anything like this to ever happen again.

Yours truly, literally everyone on the planet.
