An award-winning Cambuslang kebab house claimed another accolade when it was named Takeaway of the Year.

Asian Tandoori scooped up the honour to add to their wall of awards at the sixth annual City of Glasgow Award Ceremony.

The owner, Jameel Ahmed, spoke to Lanarkshire Live about how overwhelming it is, to win so many awards for their years of hard graft.

He said: “We have a wall of awards so this will add nicely to everything we have accomplished so far.

“Winning all these awards seems to be getting even more normal now. I couldn’t even tell you how many we have won. You come to the stage where you have won so many that you start thinking there’s no chance you’ll get it because they’ll want someone new to get it, but we keep pulling it out of the bag.

“It shows that we are consistently good and we will continue that. We do a hard graft every day and winning awards like this shows us that we are making a difference.

“It has helped our business tenfold and we can’t thank our customers enough.”

The winners were announced on the evening of Thursday, August 22.

To Jameel’s surprise, he was nominated for the award after a mystery customer ordered a meal and evaluated not only the food but also the service. After that, a shortlist was created, and the public voted for the winners.

A spokesperson for the City of Glasgow Awards 2024 said: “As the biggest city in Scotland it’s important to acknowledge the individuals and businesses that keep Glasgow going.

We want to congratulate all of our winners and highly commended recipients on their amazing accomplishments.”
