Award-winning ex-BBC radio producer Alexander Parkin, who became the “go-to guy” for chemsex drugs, could face a prison sentence for dealing crystal meth.
Alexander Parkin, 45, is an Oxford graduate who formerly worked on the BBC Radio 3 show Late Junction and won nine Sony Radio Awards for his work.
The former BBC producer pleaded guilty to supplying crystal meth at a hearing last week, according to the Evening Standard, after he was found to be in possession of the drug on 29 September.
Parkin appeared via video link at Kingston Crown Court from the jail where he is being held.
Jonathan Hardy, Parkin’s lawyer, told the court that Park admitted to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. However, Hardy said his client did not agree with the scale of the case against him.
Parkin was told that he could face a prison sentence, but the court heard that he is HIV-positive, has a central nervous system infection which requires daily injections and is losing his sight and hearing. It also heard that after his last hearing he was refused a shower for 10 days because of jail rules during the coronavirus pandemic.
Hardy admitted that while the court was likely to be “looking at a custodial sentence”, he would recommend that it be suspended because of Parkin’s circumstances.
Parkin will be held in custody, and will be sentenced at a later date.

Alexander Parkin was already convicted of supplying chemsex drugs in 2016, after the death of 18-year-old Miguel Jimenez who died of an overdose at a party and was the boyfriend of Henry Hendron, a top London barrister.
While Hendon faced a number of charges in relation to the death of his boyfriend, Parkin admitted two counts of supplying controlled drugs to Hendron.
Although he was spared prison, he sentenced to 200 hours of community service and £500 costs.
During the 2016 case, Parkin was described as “a go-to guy able to source GBL [a more potent version of GHB] and supply it on”.
