An award-winning Japanese restaurant heading to Birmingham has delayed its opening date by several months. Maneki Ramen, currently based in Worcester, will open its second site in Jewellery Quarter in Spring 2025.

The restaurant had previously hoped it would open by early Autumn - but it wasn't to be. The 2,000 sq ft venue will be based on Ludgate Hill and will have room for 70 covers along with an additional 40 seats downstairs.

The menu will feature most of its popular classics - such as Tebasaki Wings with Ginger and Katsu Curry - with a few upgrades exclusive to Birmingham. Curated drinks will include Suntory Haku Vodka, natural wines, and cocktails.

Maneki's Worcester branch was named 'Japanese Restaurant of the Year' in 2023 at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards. It said the new venue, led by head chef Pete Dovaston, will create 20 jobs for "local people".

Mr Dovaston, who uses traditional techniques he learnt particularly in Japan, said: "Birmingham has a vibrant foodie scene, so opening a new restaurant in the city has been one of our business aspirations for some time. The new restaurant will be in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter.

"We can’t wait to become part of the community and bring all the Maneki dishes people know and love, as well as introducing some extra new and exciting ones. We’ll see you soon Birmingham!”
