Awesome oaks! Stunning photo contest celebrates iconic trees around Britain

These eye-catching nature images from around Britain have been released to celebrate the iconic oak tree – and help prevent its numbers falling.

‘Celebrating our Oaks’, a photography contest launched by International Garden Photographer of the Year in partnership with ‘Action Oak’, aims to protect oak trees for future generations.

Environmental pressures including climate change, pollution and drought, couple with pests and diseases, have put the number of British oaks at risk of decline.

In London alone, oaks is estimated to be the most valuable tree species, with Action Oak hoping their work and the photography contest will fund ‘essential’ scientific research and monitoring.
