Illegal 'Flying Boat' Intercepted by Police in Canary Islands
An illegal flying boat, made from a hang-glider and inflatable, and carrying two individuals, was intercepted by Spanish authorities in a Canary Islands harbor.According to the Guardia Civil, a three-metre-long inflatable boat, attached to a motorised hang-glider, was flying at an altitude of 50 to 100 metres at a speed of around 34 mph (55 km/h) southwest of Gran Canaria, between Puerto Rico and Amadores, when it was intercepted.Spanish authorities said the boat was carrying a driver and a passenger, who was a client participating in a leisure activity. Both were wearing helmets, seatbelts, and life jackets, they said.The Guardia Civil said that the boat did not have the required permits for the aeronautical activity and had been seized.
