Ayo Edebiri Continues Her Style Streak in Sequined Bottega Veneta Column Dress
Technically, Ayo Edebiri already won an Emmy this year. Edebiri took home the trophy for best supporting actress in a comedy for her performance as Sydney Adamu in season one of The Bear, at the delayed 2023 Emmys ceremony, which was held in January 2024.
"This is a show about family and found family and real family, and my parents are here tonight and I’m making them sit far away from me because I’m a bad kid but thank you," she said in her acceptance speech. "Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and Black and proud of all of that. I love you so much. Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and have your daughter go 'I wanna do improv,' but you are real ones."
Tonight, Edebiri is looking to win again—though now she's competing in the best actress category—and she showed up on the red carpet in a winning look. For the evening, she wore a sequin Bottega Veneta dress.
At the delayed 2023 Emmys earlier this year, she opted for a custom 3D moulded gown by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton.
Last year, Edebiri revealed how she approaches her red carpet style. "Within the past year, my world has opened up so much in terms of opportunities and events, so I’ve definitely have been thinking a lot more about what I wear and how I wear it," she told W Magazine in 2023. "I realize how much fashion can help you tell stories, really. As an actress, as a storyteller, that’s so crucial. Being able to mold and create new stories for yourself, new journeys, it’s very freeing. And being able to do it in clothes that are so carefully thought out and made and so explorative and more conceptual is very cool."
Edebiri credits her mom with her early interest in fashion. “I have a very stylish mom, who is just like a beautiful Lord & Taylor queen, always wearing a ’90s suit. She had a point of view. And I grew up in church, where you show out on Sundays,” Edebiri told Vogue earlier this year. “I tried to find ways to express my style. And I think once I got to school, especially, I was like, Oh, now I can. I don’t have to wear a denim skirt every day. I can kind of figure out what my voice is.”
