Ayo Edebiri Shines on the 2024 Emmys Red Carpet in a Custom Bottega Veneta Gown

The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri had a colorful fashion moment at this evening’s Emmys ceremony. The star, who has a Best Actress in a Comedy Series nomination, wore a custom Bottega Veneta strapless gown, featuring a multicolored print and a thigh-high leg slit. She accessorized with minimalist black heeled sandals and chunky gold earrings.

Speaking to Laverne Cox on the red carpet, Edebiri shared a bit more on the look’s backstory. “Danielle Goldberg, my stylist, said it’s really reminiscent to her of Gaetano Pesce, an Italian artist who just passed away. And for me, I was also getting Nollywood vibes.”

When asked if she ever expected to be such a fashion darling, Edebiri replied, “Absolutely not. I started out doing stand-up comedy. My uniform was big pants, big T-shirt.” She’s come a long way since then.

Edebiri won a Best Supporting Actress Emmy earlier this year at the delayed 2023 ceremony for her work in The Bear. She wore a leather Louis Vuitton dress to the show.

She told Vanity Fair in May that after winning an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award for her work as Sydney on The Bear, “I feel very fortunate and still I don’t really totally believe it or understand it. It’s special but strange; both a really intense experience but also something that I’m very grateful for. People have processed my life as having changed and have processed change in me that I have not processed myself. Does that make sense?”

She also reflected on how working with stylist Danielle Goldberg has changed not just how she approaches a red carpet, but how she sees herself in this industry. “We just got kind of vulnerable,” she said of her first call with Goldberg. “I was like, ‘I feel very sad [because] people are telling me I’m primed to be this and I’m primed to be that, but I don’t feel like it’s being reflected.’”

Goldberg reassured her: “She was like, ‘You’re a leading lady, I will dress you as such,’” Edebiri recalled. She went on to wear Prada, Bottega, The Row, and more during her awards season run earlier this year.
