Ayrshire boxing club packs a punch with medals galore at King of the Ring event in Sweden
Northwest Boxing Club proved they could pack a punch after a string of terrific results at a prestigious event in Sweden.
The Kilmarnock-based club sent eight boxers to Boras to compete in the King of the Ring event - the world’s largest male boxing tournament with over 700 fighters from 25 countries descending on the city.
The local lads were competing alongside national teams, international boxers and even Olympians across the three-day event and all eight proved they belong on the international stage with a number of fantastic performances.

Aidan Sarwar, Hugh Clark, Kyle Conway, Tyler Kerr, Flynn Dunbar, Aaron Sarwar, William Clark and Euan Strachan were representing the club and collectively bagged seven standing eight counts, two stoppages and a knockout.
And it wasn’t just the fighters that did the Killie club proud as Northwest official James Martin judged a remarkable 110 bouts and 330 rounds across three days.
His accuracy and professionalism saw him awarded the Best Judge trophy.
For the boxers, 19-year-old William competed in the Elite 57kg category where he forced two standing eight counts in the second round of the final.
It was an evenly matched bout that was so close that the five judges had scored it a draw.
Given there can’t be a draw in amateur boxing, it went back to the judges where William agonisingly missed out on the gold medal.
Euan (25) competed in the Elite 67kg category. His semi-final was a fiercely contested bout with the officials putting it forward for bout of the tournament.
After an impressive win, he went on to compete in the final and managed to up his game and tempo even further as he produced a second round knockout.
Teenage ace Aaron (16) was sensational in the junior 52kg category, producing two stoppages over the weekend.
His performance in the final against Sweden’s national champion was punch perfect, forcing two standing counts and leaving the referee no other option than to stop the bout.
The impressive performances mean the Northwest boxers returned home with three silver medals, two gold medals, Best Junior Boxer trophy, Best judge trophy and the icing on the cake, the much sought after Prince of the Ring belt.
Full results and performances were:
Gold - Aaron Sarwar, Euan Strachan.
Silver - Hugh Clark, William Clark, Aaron Sarwar.
Best Judget trophy - James Martin.
Best Junior Boxer and Prince of the Ring belt - Aaron Sarwar.
