The owners of a sprawling countryside estate in Ayrshire, which once hosted Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, have fired the starting pistol in the race to recruit a new Gamekeeper.

Family-owned Carnell Estate say they are seeking a new member of staff who is “ambitious” “works well on their own” but is equally a ‘team player’ too.

The advert, on Rural Recruits, states that the successful candidate must be able to hit the ground running, given the ‘late start’ in the season.

The advert says: “An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Gamekeeper to join the Carnell team. The successful candidate must have over three years’ experience in shoots; land/estate management experience would also be advantageous.

“We are seeking an individual who is ambitious, works well on their own or as part of team, pro-active, flexible and personable. Due to the late start in the season you must be able to hit the ground running.”

According to the job description the role will be “varied,” and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake all aspects of pheasant and partridge gamekeeping from rearing stock for the season, feeding and watering, to managing shoot days.

The advert continues: “You will also be expected to maintain the rearing fields, pen fencing and maintenance and pest control. During quieter periods you will be helping with estate and land maintenance.”

The successful candidate must have a full UK driving licence (no more than six points) and valid shotgun and firearms certificates.

The salary is “competitive,” depending on experience. In addition, family living accommodation is offered as tied accommodation.

Set in more than 2,000 acres of beautiful Ayrshire woodland and countryside, Carnell Estate, near Hurlford, has enjoyed a very successful pheasant shoot over many years with on average 30 shoot days per season.

The estate is owned by Michael Findlay and been in family hands since the 1300s.
