A baby boy who was delivered after his pregnant mother was stabbed to death is unlikely to survive, her aunt said.

Kelly Mary Fauvrelle, 26, was eight months pregnant when she was killed in the early hours of Saturday at her home in Croydon, south London.

Paramedics delivered the baby at the scene and the child is critically ill in hospital.

Ms Fauvrelle “dreamed of being a mum”, according to her aunt, Rosa Fauvrelle.

Police have not yet revealed the child’s gender but her aunt said it is a boy.

“I don’t think the baby is going to make it,” said Ms Fauvrelle, from Crystal Palace, south east London.

“It’s a little boy. I don’t know what they named him.

“All Kelly wanted was to be a mum. That’s all she wanted. When she found out she was pregnant I think that really lifted her spirits.

“She was a sweetheart, an absolute sweetheart. The most gentle loving person and being a mum was all she dreamed about.”

On Valentine’s Day, Ms Fauvrelle posted a Facebook message with a photo of an ultrasound scan. It read: “Happy Valentine’s sweet pea… we can’t wait to meet you.”

Police have arrested two men following Ms Fauvrelle’s murder.

A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail.

The Metropolitan Police said the 29-year-old suspect, who was arrested on Saturday, had been bailed until early August.

A 37-year-old man, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

With the force stating officers "retain an open mind to any motive", a senior detective has described the crime as a "horrific incident".

At about 3.30am on Saturday, officers were called to reports of a woman in cardiac arrest at an address in Raymead Avenue, Thornton Heath, Croydon.

Ms Fauvrelle died at the scene, where her baby was delivered by the London Ambulance.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman said: "This is a horrific incident in which a young mother has lost her life and her child is critically ill.

"Our sympathies go out to her devastated family. They are being supported by specially trained officers following this awful event, and I would ask that they are left alone at this time as they come to terms with the enormity of what has happened.

"A large crime scene is in place, and is likely to be in place for some time.

"At the forefront of our inquiries is understanding what exactly has led to these tragic circumstances, and we are doing everything we can to establish the facts."

Medics fought to save the mother after an air ambulance, two ambulance crews and two response cars were sent to the scene by the London Ambulance Service.

On Twitter, London mayor Sadiq Khan said: "Violence against women is endemic in society and devastating murders in the home, like this one, show the scale of the problem we face.

"My prayers are with this innocent child, and with the mother it has so tragically lost."
