Baby first NHS patient to get world's most expensive drug

The NHS administers the world’s most expensive drug for the first time, to treat a five-month-old baby with a spinal disorder. Arthur Morgan is the first patient to be treated with the US gene therapy called Zolgensma, at a list price of 1.79 million pounds per dose. The young infant who was born six weeks premature, underwent the gene therapy last week after being recently diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. His family hopes the one-off treatment will help prevent further deterioration to his body. Up until two years ago, no treatment was available for children with the condition.
