Evidence in modern-day slavery and serious sexual offence cases can now be taped months in advance of a criminal trial, to be replayed later in front of a jury. The measure – under Section 28 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act – is intended to help vulnerable witnesses avoid having to wait months or even years for a court showdown with the defendant.
