Baby Whale Removed From Thames Weir in Late-Night Operation

A baby whale, reported to be a young minke whale, was released from Richmond Lock and Weir in London early on May 10 after being spotted there the evening before.

Isabel Hurcom was among the onlookers as rescuers worked to free the whale. She posted footage of the incident on Twitter.

A reporter at the scene said the whale got loose from an inflatable casing as it was being taken upstream.

The whale was believed still to be in the river, but had yet to be relocated at the time of writing. Credit: Isabel Hurcom via Storyful
