Cape Town – A contestant on the current season of The Bachelorette has been convicted of indecent assault and battery.
Lincoln Adim a suitor on the 14th season of which currently airs Sundays on 1Magic (DStv 103) pleaded guilty to indecent assault and battery charges in May.
According to BuzzFeed News the incident happened in May 2016 on a passenger ship in Boston Harbor.
The victim who was a stranger to Adim reported to the police that he “groped and assaulted” her.
He was arrested the same day and arraigned.
On 21 May he pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to one year in prison. His sentence was suspended for two years which means that if he has any runs with the law in that two year period he can go to jail for a year.
The conditions of his suspended sentence are as follows: staying away from the victim and attending three AA meetings per week.
Warner Bros who is the studio behind the show released statement saying, “No one on The Bachelorette production had any knowledge about the incident or charges when Lincoln Adim was cast, and he himself denied ever having engaged in or having been charged with any sexual misconduct.”
They further said that they employ a well-respected third party to do background checks and did not receive any reference to the charge.
Warner Bros is currently investigating why they did not receive this information.
The 26-year-old account sales executive is currently still in the competition to win over Becca Kufrin.
