The shock death of presenter Caroline Flack, 40, has seen tributes pour in from friends, colleagues and fans.

Now, the boyfriend of the late Love Island host, professional tennis player-turned-model Lewis Burton added his own message.

Posting on his Instagram grid, for the first time since Caroline’s initial arrest, Lewis shared his feelings with his 146k followers.

‘My heart is broken we had something so special,’ he wrote, next to a picture of the two of them cuddling on a white sofa in a beach bar. ‘I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much [sic].’

‘I know you felt safe with me you always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking,’ he continued.

A restraining order was in place to stop Caroline from speaking to her boyfriend, following the allegations of assault, after police were called to the north London home they shared during the early hours or December last year.

'I will be your voice,' he wrote. 'I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers. Nothing will bring you back but I will try [to] make you proud everyday.'

According to multiple sources, Caroline’s mental health was extremely poor as a result of the court case and extensive media coverage.

Despite his wishes not to press charges, legal proceedings went ahead, something that Caroline’s management have called out the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) over, citing Caroline's vulnerable mental state.

On 23rd December, visibly shaken, Caroline was charged with assault. She pleaded not guilty and was due to stand trial in early March.

On Christmas Eve 2018 she accompanied a smiling, throwback picture with a caption detailing the mental and emotional struggle she was experiencing.

‘This kind of scrutiny and speculation is a lot to take on for one person to take on their own [sic],’ she wrote. ‘I’m a human being at the end of the day and I’m not going to be silenced when I have a story to tell and a life to keep going with.’

A week out from World Mental Health Day, Caroline shared: ‘The last few weeks I’ve been in a really weird place. I find it hard to talk about it…and when I actually reached out to someone they said I was draining.’
‘I feel like this is why some people keep their emotions to themselves,’ Caroline continued. ‘I certainly hate talking about my feelings. And being a burden is my biggest fear.’
