Back in the USA: Jeremy Camp concert at MAC

Mar. 28—PRESTONSBURG — Top-selling Christian artist Jeremy Camp has missed being home, which is prompting his Theater Tour, which includes a stop at the Mountain Arts Center on April 13.

"We just wanted to go into the theaters. We've never done a full theater tour and just to have that intimacy, it's a special kind of time," Camp, a native of Indiana, said, noting he hasn't toured the United States for about a year and a half, other than joining others on tour..

The show will feature some new tunes from his album "Deeper Waters," which will be released in May. He said the title is about his journey.

Camp holds the title for most No. 1 singles among solo artists on the Christian Airplay chart. He also was Billboard's No. 2 artist of the Decade in 2010, has been nominated for a Grammy Award, and has had 41 No. 1 radio hits in various formats.

"I've been doing this for 22 years and I think I've had this kind of reflection where I've looked back on the past and all that God has done and through all the ups and downs, it's made me go deeper with my relationship with Him, the pain, the trials, the hardships," he said. "God's faithfulness and goodness and going deeper with them."

Camp wrote the 12 songs on the album, which is an important aspect of his music.

"They are very personal songs, for sure, and I think that's why I love writing my own songs, because it really gives something extra to know it came from my heart," he said. "When I sing, it feels more real and more raw and more personal."

He said he plans to perform one called "These Days" and another one he calls "more upbeat rock, to show the diversity of the album."
