Backlash over Birmingham fireworks display as organisers say 'we can't please everyone'
A Birmingham sports club released a new statement after a rescheduled fireworks display was met with backlash and criticism. Addressing threats and abuse made to staff, the cricket club said: "We cannot and will not please everyone".
Kings Heath Cricket and Sports Club previously announced they would reschedule after the fireworks contractor experienced technical issues on November 10. Now taking place on November 15, the club revealed the new event will be free and has since confirmed to BirminghamLive that the fireworks will only be for previous ticket holders of the original display.
The decision to reschedule divided opinions as many criticised the decision to hold another fireworks event this month. Pet lovers in particular expressed concern online about the welfare of animals.

Commenting on a local Facebook group, Sarah Moore said: "Yet more stress, upset and anxiety for pets and wildlife with yet another unnecessary nuisance of a display which is really uncalled for. Why not just refund everyone?"
Jane McKears added: "Not more fireworks, just when we thought we could finally stop giving our dog sedatives. I am so angry."
But Trish Mcassey posted: "I knew it wasn't right, the amount of fireworks that were seen. Fair play to do this for the public."
Kings Heath Cricket and Sports Club responded to the feedback and reiterated that the event will still go ahead. The club revealed that staff have been sworn at and threatened over the rescheduled display.
They said: "We would like to thank the majority of people who came by the club today or messaged us. Most of you have been respectful, kind, understanding and satisfied we have done our best to resolve this situation.
"Of course, we cannot and will not please everyone, the display you expected to see, will be done Friday at 6.15 prompt. There will be no funfair but the bar will be open and we will also be selling hot drinks. Gates open at 5.30.
"We will not accept threatening behaviour, swearing, screaming and shouting at our staff when they are doing their jobs. It's taken some negotiation with the fireworks team and board of directors, but we are doing all we can to rectify this situation, that of course, is completely out of our hands and control.
"For those of you coming along Friday, we look forward to seeing you, and for those of you who have opted for tickets for next year, we shall see you in 2025."
