Bake Off champ Candice Brown shocks pupils as she returns to her teaching job

Great British Bake Off champ Candice Brown revealed that her pupils were shocked when she returned to her teaching job because they believed she was a millionaire.

Candice triumphed over fellow finalists Andrew Smyth and Jane Beedle to win the closing series of the BBC baking competition before its move to Channel 4, but she’s not letting the sweet smell of success disrupt her day job.

The baking enthusiast, 31, said the children at the school, where she works as a PE teacher, had been quizzing her about her win.

She told Hello! Magazine: “When I went into school after the final was on TV the kids went: ‘Why are you in, miss? You’re a millionaire!”

Candice also addressed rumours that she got engaged to her boyfriend Liam Macaulay, revealing that they will get married “one day”, and have a family together, but admitted there’s no immediate urgency on the matter.

She explained: “We’ll get married one day but there’s no rush. We’ll have kids too… family is very important to us both… we want it all.”

The lipstick-loving queen went on to express her gratitude to her partner, who she praised as her “biggest support” in keeping her grounded during her whirlwind rise to fame.

She said: “Liam is my biggest support. He tells me every day that he’s so proud of me.”

The royal-themed finale of this year’s series became the most-watched programme on television since 2012 after attracting 15.9 million viewers – a new record for the award-winning show.
