Bake Off winner Candice Brown fights back tears as she opens up about body-shaming trolls weeks before her wedding
The Great British Bake Off star Candice Brown held back tears on Lorraine as she discussed her recent experience of being body-shamed by cruel trolls just weeks before her wedding.
Brown, who won the seventh series of the popular show in its last BBC year, faced a tirade of online comments about her appearance after being snapped in a bikini on holiday with pals.
Speaking on Wednesday’s Lorraine, Brown welled up as she admitted that the remarks did knock her confidence as she prepares to walk down the aisle.
She told Lorraine Kelly: “That’s the only time. I put my wedding dress on and I burst into tears because I was terrified I wasn’t going to fit into it.
“It’s fine, but also what precedent are we setting for young girls and young boys, and I get married in two and a half weeks, I’m fine the way I am.
“Everybody’s fine the way they are. Who are these people to say ‘that’s not right. You should be this, you should be that?’
“No, because Instagram isn’t real life. Real life is that. Real life is wobbly bits and stretch marks.”

The former teacher continued: “I didn’t ask for those pictures to be taken of me on holiday, neither did my girls, one of which has just had a baby. But the onslaught from that was just horrendous and as a teacher teaching secondary schools.
“I spent nearly ten years trying to teach students ‘you’re OK as you are. Everyone’s different, everyone’s a different shape, size, everything.’ And then to be having to justify myself.”
Brown, who appeared on the rebooted Dancing On Ice in January , explained that she found herself having to “justify she’s not pregnant just because she didn’t breathe in” after receiving comments condemning her for drinking.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 8.25am on ITV.
