Bank Holiday TV guide: What to watch this weekend from Britain's Got Talent to Game of Thrones

It’s another Bank Holiday weekend which means time with the family, lots of food and hopefully a well-earned Monday rest.

But if the weather refuses to hold up, worry not. There is plenty on the box to get excited about from films to sport and the Britain’s Got Talent live shows.

There's even a mammoth chance to say a fond farewell to Game of Thrones with a behind-the-scenes documentary featuring your favourite cast members and a whole load of the crew armed with filming secrets.

Here are the best picks for the Bank Holiday weekend:

Saturday

England v Denmark – BBC One - 12.45pm (kick-off 1pm)

With a matter of days to go until the start of the Women’s World Cup in France, the Lionesses have their penultimate warm-up friendly against Denmark, who failed to qualify for the competition. The two sides will meet at Banks’s Stadium in Walsall, with Phil Neville hoping for his team to come out on top.

The Hit List – BBC One, 7.30pm

Musical husband and wife duo Rochelle and Marvin Humes are making their first foray into Saturday evening presenting together at the helm of a fun music quiz which sees contestants tasked with having to correctly name artists and song titles to be in with a shot at winning the jackpot.

Players will test their knowledge of a wide range of music and many, many genres as they fight for £10,000 across three rounds,

Britain’s Got Talent – ITV, 8pm

It’s the last of the auditions, pre-recorded earlier this year in Manchester and London, with more hopefuls desperate to make it through to the live-shows.

After seeing the final performers, it’s up to the judges to decide which acts to take through to the live shows – which kick off on Monday.

Sunday

West Side Story – BBC Two, 2.35pm

Jerome Robbins’ Oscar-winning adaptation comes to BBC for the perfect Sunday afternoon viewing. Starring Natalie Wood as Maria and Richard Beymer as Tony, the musical follows New York gangs in the 1950s with a love story inspired by Romeo and Juliet.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – ITV, 4.30pm

A very young and fresh-faced Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson take us all the way back to 2001 and the first Harry Potter movie. The film, as probably everyone is more than aware, centres on young wizard Harry who finds out his magical abilities when he gets sent to Hogwarts. There, he meets Ron and Hermione before the adventures really begin.

Gentleman Jack – BBC One, 9pm

The raunchy new drama continues with Anne Lister – played by Suranne Jones – determined to get exactly what she wants, despite the obstacles that may stand in her way. However, as Anne sets about making Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle) hers, it’s clear that the problems will just keep on cropping up.

Monday

Britain’s Got Talent – ITV, 7.30pm and 9.30pm

Hosts: Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will present the six live shows to round off the series (ITV)
Hosts: Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will present the six live shows to round off the series (ITV)

The hit talent show hunt to find the next Royal Variety Act goes live for its semi-finals, leading up to Sunday’s big night, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly from the Hammersmith Apollo in London.

The full list of who’s made it through to the semi-finals, and who will take the place on Monday night’s bill, will be revealed in due course. But we do know that one of the Golden Buzzer acts will perform during the show.

This year’s special five are teen boyband Chapter 13 (Amanda Holden), the children’s choir from Flakefleet Primary School (David Walliams), young singer Giorgia Borg (Alesha Dixon), comedian Kojo (Simon Cowell) and young dancer Akshat Singh (Ant and Dec).

The results of the semi-final will be revealed in the second show each evening, which airs between 9.30pm and 10pm. It is expected to feature at least one guest act per night.

Coronation Street – ITV, 9pm

As is somewhat of a tradition for the BGT live week, Coronation Street is in the post-watershed slot for five nights only – and it’s a big week for the soap. Weatherfield and its residents are set to be rocked by a series of discoveries and dramas, including the big reveal of who caused the fatal factory roof collapse.

Game of Thrones: The Last Watch – Sky Atlantic, 9pm (and 2am-4.10am if you fancy!)

Last week, fantasy fans everywhere were devastated (if not a little disappointed!) to bid farewell to Westeros after finally finding out who claimed the Iron Throne. This feature-length (130 minutes) documentary bids one last goodbye to the hugely popular HBO show with a behind-the-scenes look at Thrones, featuring cast and crew.
