We're now almost into the second month of 2025, and there has been one bank holiday so far for England and Wales. New Year's Day is marked as a UK-wide holiday, while January 2 is also a holiday - but in Scotland only.

Many people look forward to a bank holiday, usually because they get the day off work or school. However there's still quite a wait for the next one. There were eight bank holidays in England and Wales this year, and the same applies for 2025.

Currently, the next bank holiday for England and Wales falls on Friday, April 18. This is Good Friday, and it's taking place some three weeks later than it did last year, due to Easter falling on Sunday, April 20, in 2025.

When Easter falls depends on the lunar season, as Easter takes place on the first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. The day after Easter, Easter Monday, is also a bank holiday, and this takes place on April 21 this year.

Other new dates that have been added for 2025 include Mondays May 5 and May 26, the early and spring May bank holidays, which have moved from May 6 and 27 last year. The August bank holiday will take place on Monday, August 25 this year.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day naturally remain unchanged, with these falling on December 25 and December 26.
