The man suspected of driving a van into pedestrians in the Barcelona terror attack has been arrested, according to Spanish media.

Police have been hunting for Younes Abouyaaqoub, who is suspected of driving the car, since the deadly attack on Thursday.

Spanish outlet La Vanguardia reported he was arrested in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, a district just west of Barcelona.

It has also been reported that a man wearing a suicide belt has been shot dead in nearby Subirats.

Catalan police wrote on Twitter that there is an "open incident" in Subirats, but did not confirm whether the two incidents are related.

Los Mossos police posted: "The suspicious person of Subirats wearing a belt of explosives adhering to the body. The individual has been shot dead."

Thirteen people were killed in the attack in Las Ramblas in Barcelona on Thursday night, including seven-year-old British boy Julian Cadman.

Joaquim Forn, head of home affairs in Catalonia's regional government, said earlier on Monday that "everything indicates" Abouyaaqoub was behind the wheel.

Abouyaaqoub, who fled on foot, was believed to be the only at-large member of the 12-strong terror cell behind the attacks in Barcelona and the seaside town of Cambrils.

The death toll from the two attacks rose to 15 on Monday when a second victim of the Cambrils attack died in hospital.
