Sergio Aguero was taken to hospital after complaining of chest discomfort during Barcelona's draw with Alaves.

The 33-year-old forward was replaced by Philippe Coutinho after receiving treatment for several minutes during the La Liga match at the Nou Camp.

He was seen holding his chest and will undergo cardiac tests at hospital as a precautionary measure after leaving the ground in an ambulance.

The club confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "@aguerosergiokun reported chest discomfort and has been admitted to the hospital for a cardiac exam."

Aguero joined the Spanish giants in the summer after his contract ended at Manchester City and his former club sent a message of support to the Argentine on Twitter.

"Everyone at Manchester City wishes you a speedy recovery, @aguerosergiokun. We're with you," they said.

Aguero's Barcelona career has already been hampered by injury.

He scored his first goal for the club on his El Clasico debut against Real Madrid, in a 2-1 home defeat.

This was Barcelona's first game since Ronald Koeman left, with Sergi Barjuan taking charge on a caretaker basis.

Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay opened the scoring on Saturday before Luis Rioja levelled, earning his side a point.

Barcelona sit in ninth place in the table - eight points behind rivals Real Madrid, who beat Elche 2-1.
