Lionel Messi trained alone at Camp Nou on Saturday as Barcelona team-mate Luis Suarez was given the green light to return from injury and scored in a practice match.

The Argentine attacker underwent "specific work at the stadium" after missing the sessions on Wednesday and Friday with a thigh injury.

Barca hope their captain will be back in group training on Monday as they prepare for the return of LaLiga after the lengthy break caused by coronavirus.

The leaders are in action away to Mallorca next Saturday and Suarez should be available for that match after he was given the all clear to return to action by Barca's medical staff.

Suarez had surgery on a knee injury in January and has been out for almost five months, meaning he is yet to feature under current coach Quique Setien.

The Uruguayan netted in a practice match on Saturday which his side won 3-1, with Gerard Pique and young winger Kike Saverio also on target, along with Martin Braithwaite for the losing team.

"He is now ready to return for the final part of the season," Barca said of Suarez.
