Baseball-Major League Baseball roundup

March 28 (The Sports Xchange) - Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander, who left Friday's spring training game because of a cramp in his right triceps muscle, said Saturday he is not too concerned. "Pretty low, especially with the time we have (before his next start), extra day and can even manipulate things forward if need be," Verlander said of his level of concern. Verlander is tentatively scheduled to start on Thursday against the New York Yankees in Lakeland, Fla., which would be his spring training finale. He has another extra day of rest scheduled before his season debut, scheduled for April 8 against the Minnesota Twins. Verlander met Saturday with athletic trainer Kevin Rand but did not have an MRI exam or any other tests. His treatment so far has been limited to ice. The right-hander said the next couple days will indicate whether his injury is a cramp or a strain. --- New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius will sit out a couple of day after suffering a sprained left wrist while diving for a ground ball Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles. Gregorius suffered the injury in the second inning while trying to nab Everth Cabrera's single to left. He was replaced by Nick Noonan in the fifth inning and left to get X-rays. Manager Joe Girardi told YES Network that Gregorius will not play Sunday and Monday, with the hope he can return Tuesday. --- The Washington Nationals revealed the order of the starting rotation following right-hander Max Scherzer, who was announced earlier as the Opening Day starter on April 6 against the New York Mets at Nationals Park. Manager Matt Williams said Saturday that Scherzer will be followed by Jordan Zimmermann, Stephen Strasburg, left-hander Gio Gonzalez and Doug Fister. Strasburg's start in the third game of the season on April 9 likely will be a showdown with Mets ace Matt Harvey. --- The Boston Red Sox will seek a second opinion on catcher Christian Vazquez's throwing elbow. The results of the MRI exam on Vazquez's elbow on Friday raised sufficient concerns, manager John Farrell said Saturday. The 24-year-old Vazquez is reportedly scheduled to get a second opinion in Fort Myers, Fla., where the Red Sox hold spring training. Vazquez has not played in a game since March 13, when he said he felt discomfort in his elbow. The injury rules out Vazquez breaking camp with the club next Saturday. The Red Sox open the regular season in Philadelphia on April 6. --- The Los Angeles Angels released veteran right-handed relief pitcher Matt Lindstrom. Lindstrom, 35, was in camp this spring on a minor league contract. He posted a 2-2 record and 5.03 ERA in 34 innings last season for the Chicago White Sox. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
