Bath Rugby injury latest ahead of Sale Sharks in the Gallagher Premiership semi-final

Bath Rugby head into Saturday’s season-defining Gallagher Premiership semi-final against Sale Sharks at the Recreation Ground with close to the full squad available for selection to provide a huge boost in their pursuit of reaching the final for the first time in nine years.

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan confirmed just three senior players are currently unavailable for the play-off match allowing him to run highly competitive training sessions over the last couple of weeks to prepare for the knockout game.

Speaking to SomersetLive on Tuesday ahead of the game having named his team internally on Monday, van Graan said: “One of the first things when we started [in July, 2022] is we said medically, body composition wise, we needed to become better and that will lead to more consistent training and consistent game time and having more players in training.”

Part of that masterplan was bringing in Rory Murray as Head of Medical from Bristol Bears and Alex Martin as head of Athletic Performance having previously forged his reputation with England Women and Leicester Tigers. Paying tribute to their impact, Van Graan said: “All credit to the staff and players because earlier today we had more than three full teams playing against each other."

Discussing availability in more detail, van Graan said: “Currently Chris Cloete is unavailable, Sam Harris is unavailable and Tom de Glanville is close to full fitness, otherwise we have got a healthy squad to pick from and that is a testament to our alignment, and a lot of hard work by a lot of people over the last two years. That is what you want at the back end of the season, the very best teams have their very best players available for the big games.”
