A Bath pub has been "delighted" by its showing at the Loo of the Year Awards. The King of Wessex on James Street West was given a platinum plus rating after being judged by secret shoppers on its cleanliness, décor, accessibility, handwashing and drying equipment, and overall maintenance.

Thousands of public toilets have been graded across the UK. All of the toilets are graded bronze, silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

The King of Wessex manager Stacey Greenwood said: "We are delighted with the grading. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

"The pub deserves its platinum plus award."
