DC fans are still collecting themselves after hearing that Robert Pattinson could be in line to play The Dark Knight in Matt Reeves's The Batman – and now he's been tipped to come up against two iconic villains in the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is preparing to reunite The Penguin and Catwoman for the solo movie, which will reportedly feature "around half-a-dozen villains".

This will of course bring back memories of Tim Burton's Batman Returns, which saw Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer give iconic performances in the roles of the two villains.

Just cast them again, to be honest.

There's still no official confirmation on whether Pattinson is definitely, definitely playing Batman, but the actor is thought to be at the top of a very interesting list nonetheless.

Other big names that have been floated for the part of Batman are said to include Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

In January, Ben Affleck confirmed that he wouldn't be returning to the role after tweeting that he was "excited" to see director/writer Matt Reeves' "vision come to life".

Following confirmation that Affleck was to hang up his cowl, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder paid tribute to the actor by calling him the "best Batman ever".

"Thank you my friend for blessing me with that f**king glorious chin and an amazing heart," he wrote.

The Batman is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
