A mother-of-three has died after a car crashed into her and her family while they were out on a weekend walk.

The 37-year-old woman was with her partner and their three children when they were hit by a Volkswagen Beetle on the A2100 Upper Lake in Battle, near Hastings, East Sussex.

The woman, who has not been named, has since died in hospital while her partner suffered serious head injuries in the crash just before 2pm on Sunday, Sussex Police said.

The woman driver and the three children, including an infant in a pram, sustained shock and minor injuries and were treated at the Conquest Hospital, St Leonards-on-Sea.

Sergeant Peter Verney said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family at what is a very difficult time, and we would ask people to respect their privacy while they try to come to terms with what has happened.”
