Bay Area Medical Staff Protest Over Lack of Personal Protective Equipment

Medical staff in Oakland, California, protested the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) available to them in the fight against COVID-19 in a demonstration outside their hospital on March 23, according to reports.

The group of employees from the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center chanted, “What do we want? PPE! When do we want it? Now!”

According to reports, staff had been asked to reuse masks and goggles, increasing the risk of infection for themselves and for patients.

The shortage of PPE has been a worry for medical staff across the country, with some turning to the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to raise funds for the equipment. Credit: Center for Employment Training Immigration and Citizenship Program (CET-ICP) via Storyful
