Bayesian yacht update: Who has died and who is still missing after tragedy

Billionaire Mike Lynch has been found dead in the search for six individuals who were aboard the sunken £30 million yacht Bayesian.

The Italian coastguard has confirmed the bodies of five people found on the yacht - however, Mr Lynch's daughter was tragically not among them.

Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith Bloomer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo have also been found by rescue teams. However, Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah is still missing, reports the Mirror.

On Wednesday, Sicily's Chief of Civil Protection Salvo Cocina revealed his beliefs that the Oxford-bound teen was among the bodies recovered. However, this morning it was tragically confirmed that the final person yet to be found was a woman.

A source close to the operation said the businessman's body was brought to shore on Thursday morning, after a fire service boat with flashing blue lights returned to shore at Porticello just after 8.45 am local time, with a blue body bag.

The discovery brings the total number of confirmed deaths to six after the body of chef Recaldo Thomas was found on the day the yacht capsized.

The superyacht sank on Monday after it was believed to have been hit by a waterspout. Many hoped anyone trapped in the bowels of the ship had found air pockets to keep them alive as rescue teams searched for them - however, these hopes have now been diminished.

Here, we take a look at those who are confirmed dead in the tragedy in the Mediterranean.

Mike set off on the trip to celebrate after he was recently acquitted in a major fraud case where he had been accused of orchestrating a fraud and conspiracy leading up to the $11 billion deal (£8billion) from which his Autonomy firm was bought out by giants Hewlett Packard.

Mr Lynch reached the Forbes billionaire list in 2014 and 2015, with the American magazine predicting his net worth was around $1 billion. But claims he fell off in 2016.

Angela Baceras - his wife - survived the sinking, but the couple's 18-year-old daughter Hannah remains lost at sea, despite earlier reports suggesting her body was discovered.

Jonathan Bloomer was chief executive of global finance group Prudential between 2000 and 2005, he is currently chair of Morgan Stanley International.

His wife Judy is a former director of property developer Change Real Estate along with her husband.

Mr Bloomer was also chairman of insurance provider Hiscox. The firm said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing.”

Mr Bloomer's twin Jeremy said of the tragedy: "I'm just numb, just numb. That's it, you don't know what to think and you can't believe it's happened."

Mrs Bloomer was a supporter of charity the Eve Appeal, and served as a trustee and committee member for over 20 years. Athena Lamnisos, CEO, said: "Everyone at the charity is deeply shocked to hear the news that our very dear friend Judy is amongst the missing. Our thoughts are with Judy and Jonathan’s family, and all those who are still waiting for news after this tragic event."

Christopher and Neda Morvillo

Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda were also on the yacht to join in the celebrations. He had worked on the case for more than a decade and was a partner of law firm Clifford Chance's US branch.

Previously, he was the assistant attorney for the Southern District of New York between 1995 and 2005, as well as working on the terrorist investigation into the 9/11 attacks.

Mr Morvillo praised Mr Lynch as “wonderful” and “determined” in a post on the website Linkedin days afterwards. He thanked his “patient and incredible wife” Neda and daughters Sabrina and Sophia, he wrote: “None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home."

His wife Neda owned luxury jewellery brand Neda Nassiri, and according to the company's website has been designing hand-crafting jewellery in New York for over two decades.

The first body that was discovered from the yacht wreck was that of Recaldo Thomas, an onboard chef.

Recaldo's body was discovered on Tuesday.

Yesterday Salvatore Cocina, the head of Sicily’s civil protection agency, confirmed five bodies were found. Four of the five were retrieved on Wednesday, with the last brought to the surface this morning. The search continues for the other person missing following the sudden capsizing of the vessel in a storm.

Fifteen people escaped the yacht before it capsized earlier this week, including Mr Lynch's wife. Fisherman Fabio Cefalù earlier told how he had seen a flare from the shore at around 4.30am and immediately set out to the site. By the time he got there, the Bayesian had already sunk, with only cushions, wood and other items from the superyacht floating in the water. He said: “For the rest, we didn't find anyone. I think they are inside, all the missing people.”
