The BBC's Bake Off replacement that isn't actually its Bake Off replacement made its debut tonight (August 15), and d'you know what? We think it was a bit of a success.

Yep, BBC Two's The Big Family Cooking Showdown (see, it doesn't have the words 'Great' or 'British' in its title) finally kicked off, as two families cooked it out for a place in the semi-final.

The brand new series features Zoe Ball and Bake Off champion – and national treasure – Nadiya Hussain as hosts, while chefs Rosemary Shrager and Giorgio Locatelli act as judges.

This week, it was between the Charles family and the Marks family, as they each took part in The £10 Challenge, Home Visits Challenge and Impress the Neighbours Challenge.

And the first family through to the semi-final after impressing the judges with their risotto, spatchcock chicken and general deliciousness was the Charles family. Congrats, guys!

And that's not the only thing we reckon is worth a congratulations, as the show itself is in need of some, too – because everyone seems to be loving it so far.

Even if we are kind of cheating on Mary Berry. (Sorry, Mez.)

One thing that viewers weren't entirely convinced by, however, was the family dynamics on display. In the kitchen, of all places.

"My family would be fun on this, but they'd have to show it after the watershed and have a crisis negotiator on standby," one viewer wrote. Same, mate.

The Big Family Cooking Showdown airs on BBC Two.
